    Re: Source of Helium gas?

Radioactive decay of heavy elements deep in the Earth's depths is the source of the Helium we use in balloons.
Stars smashing hydrogen atoms together in fusion reactions is the bigger picture on a universe scale.

On Earth Helium is concentrated in the United States of America and is collected as a by-product of drilling and mining.

Perhaps we'll get some fusion reactors going and bump the terrestrial Helium supply but until then we're stuck to working with what the rocks give us, slowly.
