How to you close off un-knotted balloons?

I was using bag clips but realized a larger size paper clip works just as well, weighs less, and is cheaper. All you have to do is twist the neck a time or two before putting it on.

    What's your preferred method?

My favorite is roll up, like the old punch balloons.
These would be for bladders and giant balloons.
Otherwise I use half knots or clips for 36" or smaller.

I tend to use clips or elastic (rubber) bands. For the elastic band method to work best, I twist the end of the balloon neck just once or twice before wrapping the elastic round about 7 or 8 times. Usually holds pretty well.

If you ever have popped balloons, save the lip from the end of the neck - you can use these as elestic bands to close of other balloons.

I would use pants hangers and use the clip part

Elastic bands work great. Twist the mouthpiece of the balloon and wind the band around them multiple times tightening at each twist.

For smaller balloons (sub 36”) , I use old school “H” clips. For my larger balloons I use zip ties.

The zip ties can be removed carefully when required.
In the many years I’ve been doing this I’ve never had one be the cause of a pop.
Or a hole. The zip tie method really only works on larger balloons over 40” or so.

You can do a half knot and its really easy to undo, no clips or ties just the balloon
