I live in Valencia, an area of Spain that has a long tradition with gunpowder and firecrackers. I am what we call a fallera (girls who participate in the Fallas festival), so my relationship with firecrackers has been since I was little because my whole family are "falleros".
When I began to have an attraction towards setting them off was when my ex-looner partner and I went to an exhibition to overcome his phobia of firecrackers. This took us a while playing with firecrackers and in the end we ended up really enjoying it. We made night trips to abandoned places or polygons to do our explosions and pyrotechnic shows. we took it as a party, we drank and enjoyed a lot. Being from Valencia, can you tell us more about Fallas, Mascletà, La Despertà and the fallers? Also, I've seen videos of Globotá Mascletá. Have you participated in all of these? What is it like living in Valencia with lots of firecrackers and balloon popping? What other festivals or events have firecrackers and/or balloons?

I enjoyed balloons like any girl. They are in honor of the patron saint of Valencia, San Jose.
The festivities begin a few days before March in La Crida, which is where the main Falleras of Valencia (the queens of the festivities) are presented. There are also many other Falleras, but from the neighborhood.
The mascletas start on March 1 and last until March 19 (every day at 2:00 p.m.
).
But the big parties, when the streets are closed and it seems like the Wild West, are the last week (from the 15th to the 19th)
As for the noisy moments, there are the awakenings in which we throw some specific firecrackers that do not light but explode when they hit the ground...
(you can imagine hundreds of people in a street throwing thousands of trons de bac, as firecrackers are called)
The mascletas are shorter, around 5 minutes, they burn hundreds of kilos of gunpowder, they are intense and reach peaks of 130db.
Thunderbolts are typical for common people, some are really strong and I love them.

Hi, there is no problem about firecrakers if you come to valencia in a normal weekend, they are not allow to use. The only possibility that you saw Valencian firecrackers would only be at a wedding at the exit of the church and they are long firecrackers of 25-50m with a final boom, but it would be unlikely.
