    Question

I'm looking for inspiration for new stories, and I have a thoughtful question for those on this forum:

What would be the worst situation to be a balloon fetishist in??

    Re: Question

Someone with a popping phobia who’s at a party where one of the games is a popping contest. They don’t have to participate, but they can’t leave because they went with someone who has to stay for some reason or another.

      Re: Question

      Oooh oooh I got one....

How about "environmentalists" were successful at BANNING all latex balloons worldwide!?

That would be a pretty bad situation. (However that is probably not what you meant.)

      LOL

That;s good but I don't know how I'd work that into a story.

          Re: Question

Aside from running out of balloons? Hmmm...

Well, I don’t know if it’s the worst, but suppose you’re inflating a massive balloon and you can’t get the pump to shut off, so you’re frantically trying to get it disconnected and meanwhile shoving things around in the room so it doesn’t get poked by something.

              Re: Question

that one might be a classic.

someone with a balloon popping phobia has to endure a balloon drop. and to spice things up, WITH THEIR CRUSH.
And I ask myself, why? and all I hear is the cold, dead silence of the cosmos.

                Re: Question

Being in proximity to a balloon they can't have. Especially if that balloon's in danger of being popped. It doesn't particularly have to be a balloon that's in any way more interesting than a normal balloon, but it's worse if it is. Let's say you're in a public setting, and there's something like this one: https://www.balloons-united.com/en/c...iantmouse.html

Let's further say that the person who has it is acting very much like they're going to pop it. I think most of us, this situation is going to make us crazy. Anyone else agree?

Yeah, that would be a really good one, because that’s always gonna be a potential issue. It’d be a different kind of story, but an absurdly relatable one.

                    Re: Question

The flip side of that idea that would also make an interesting story: non-looner adult finds their son, daughter, niece or nephew “having a little too much fun with their balloons”, and asks their friend or relative they don’t know is also a looner for advice. Again, different kind of story, but one that has potential to be interesting.

I'm really after more long term scenarios, e.g. a popper and non popper in a relationship, etc

                        Re: Question

As a semi-popper who's still very much afraid of the bang if I'm not in control and wearing earplugs, I think one of the worst scenarios would be at a balloon drop or somewhere with a balloon popping competition. I imagine there would be some very conflicting feelings around.

Suppose the nonpopper has a favorite balloon, but their popping companion has a fondness for popping balloons (either covertly or openly in front of the aforementioned nonpopper), so they’re basically playing an extended game of keepaway.

This can culminate in a number of ways, such as the popper leaving the nonpopper a recording of their favorite balloon’s demise (or live in-person), or maybe the nonpopper succeeds somehow...
